Shanghai successfully bid to host the biennial meeting of the International Society for Science and Technology Communication until 2027

China News Network, April 4 At 16:4 p.m. Beijing time on April 14, the General Assembly of the Network for the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) held in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, voted to decide that Shanghai Jiao Tong University won the right to host the 10th International Society for Science and Technology Communication Biennial Conference in 30, which is the first time that China has become the host country of the PCST Biennale.

PCST President Dr. Jenni Metcalfe announced the host cities of the 2023th Biennial Conference of the International Society for the Communication of Science and Technology in 2027 at the closing ceremony of the 19 Annual Meeting in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The 2027th International Society for Science and Technology Communication Biennial Conference in 19 is sponsored by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and provided guidance and support by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

On April 4, led by Zhu Xinyuan, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Li Benqian, Dean of the School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mu Yi, Long-term Associate Professor, and Kang Dongjing, Associate Professor of Long Rail, went to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to participate in the on-site defense. On April 9, the sponsor team attended the defense site. Facing bidding teams from the United States, Australia and other countries, the Shanghai Jiaotong University team vividly told the story of Chinese science and technology in an international narrative that conforms to European and American thinking and cultural habits. The splendid Chinese culture, vibrant Shanghai, and strong disciplinary strength of Jiaotong University have aroused the strong interest of PCST members. The exquisite PPT pictures presented by the bidding team, the scientific conference organization plan, and the strong domestic support unit left a deep impact on the PCST members. After the voting of 4 members of PCST, Shanghai Jiao Tong University successfully won the right to host the 11 International Biennale of Science and Technology Communication.

In 2022, the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission held the first Shanghai Science and Technology Communication Conference, and under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, the School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University initiated and established the "Yangtze River Delta Science and Technology Communication Alliance", which provided a wisdom engine for building a linkage pattern of science and technology communication in Shanghai and improving the scientific and technological communication capabilities in the Yangtze River Delta region. The successful bid for the 2027 Biennial Conference of the International Society for Science and Technology Communication will further promote the international development of science and technology communication in Shanghai.

It is reported that the International Society for Science and Technology Communication is the most influential and active science and technology communication research organization in the international world, with members in various countries around the world, and important conferences have also been bid by the host countries and held on all continents of the world. Since the first annual conference in Poitiers, France, in 1989, the International Society for Scientific and Technical Communication has held 16 sessions in countries around the world. In the preparation process of this bidding activity, the School of Media and Communication of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, conducted solid research and preparation for the bid of the conference, and cooperated with the Institute of Science and Technology Development, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and other units to successfully complete the preparatory work. In addition, the bid for this conference has also received strong support from 26 units, including Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Shanghai Branch of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Academician Consultation and Academic Activity Center of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Shanghai Science and Technology Communication Society, and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.

At the closing ceremony of the 2023 Annual Conference in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, Associate Professor Mu Yi delivered a speech on behalf of the 2027 organizers.

Zhu Xinyuan, the person in charge of the bidding activity and vice president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, said that the successful acquisition of the right to host the 2027 Biennial Conference of the International Society for Science and Technology Communication can further give full play to the advantages of Shanghai International Science and Technology Innovation Center and Shanghai Jiao Tong University in science and technology communication, and promote the international development of science and technology communication by integrating resources from all walks of life. The organizers of the conference will take the holding of the international academic event as an opportunity to build a bridge of international science and technology communication and exchange, accelerate the construction of Shanghai's global science and technology innovation center, help tell China's science and technology stories, and promote the realization of the strategy of "strengthening the country with science and technology".
