17 out of 21 regions in Sweden expect deficits in their budgets. Region Värmland has budgeted with a deficit of SEK 278 million this year, and a negative result also in 2024.

But there will be no addition to the strained economy. According to the finance minister, inflation requires a tight budget. If there is any money, it will not be until the autumn.

"Risking even bigger deficits"

"My absolute plan and my priority is to fight inflation," says Elisabeth Svantesson (M).

Åsa Johansson (S) believes that the deficits now risk becoming even larger.

"The budget we have set for next year will not hold," she says.
