Virginie Girod SEASON 2022 - 202317h13, April 17, 2023

[To listen also to revise the Bac or the Patent] In this second episode devoted to the leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro, historian Virginie Girod looks back at the diplomatic rapprochement between Cuba and the USSR. After the success of his coup, Castro became Prime Minister of the Republic of Cuba in 1959. A new era then opened: reformer, Fidel Castro established collective agreements, agrarian reform, and the suspension of tenant evictions. Internationally, Castro is rejected by the United States. In search of an alliance, he turned to the enemy of the Americans and concluded trade agreements with the USSR. Suspicious, the United States will organize the landing of the Bay of Pigs, which will only have the consequence of demonstrating the solidity of the Castro regime.
