HIF fires the entire leadership trio with immediate effect: Coaches Alvaro Santos and Mattias Lindström and sports director on the men's side Andreas Granqvist.

He says that the coaches got the message after lunch, they were called to a meeting with the board. Chairman Fredrik Karlsson announced that they had been dismissed as coaches.

"I wasn't surprised, but I'm obviously sad about this," says Mattias Lindström.

"Didn't find the right buttons"

HIF has not had a good start in superettan with three straight losses. Why?

"Alvaro and I have been working continuously, we had a line and followed a plan. But it has not worked so well so far, we have not managed to find the right buttons. And as coaches, we are ultimately responsible.

Have you received the support you needed from the club's management?

"Yes, I have.

Many have left prematurely

In the 2000s, HIF has had a real coaching carousel. When the Lindström/Alvaro duo took over from Jörgen Lennartsson in May last year, they became numbers 15 and 16 on the head coach's bench. A majority of the former coaches have left prematurely.

Mattias Lindström discusses the coaching continuity in a club.

"I hope that our successor will stay longer. The clubs that have high continuity usually do well. And a lack of continuity can be one of the reasons why things are going badly.

Not the best gift

What are you going to do now?

"I'm going to continue as a coach, I've been doing that for seven years now and it's a profession that I enjoy.

On Tuesday, Mattias Lindström turns 43.

"This may not be the best birthday present," he says.
