In a blog post and on Facebook, the train drivers now call for a "wild strike on the shuttle" starting on Monday at 03 a.m. and that the "only way to get full driver staffing is to get full train attendant staffing".

Since March, half of all commuter trains have run without train attendants. This has resulted in sick leave that has led to several cancelled departures and staff shortages, as SVT previously reported.

Trade union: "Hardly makes it easier to negotiate"

The trade union Seko, which organises most of the train drivers, rejects plans for a wild strike.

"We are currently in negotiations for a new collective agreement for our members in the rail transport industry, which also includes our members in public transport in Stockholm. In the negotiations, we pursue important issues to improve the conditions and work environment for our members. In that situation, organizing illegal and wild strikes hardly makes it easier to negotiate.", says Seko's Head of Communications Jonas Pettersson in a comment.

MTR still hopes to get enough train drivers to run the commuter trains on Monday.

– We are in dialogue with our employees to inform them about what applies. It is difficult to say how extensive the strike will be yet, says Niklas Ekström, Head of Communications at MTR.

According to him, the question of whether the train attendants should be or not is not up to MTR to decide.

– This is a decision made by the traffic committee in the region and our mission is to ensure that the transition takes place as safely and securely as possible.
