February 2019. An Indian military convoy is targeted by a suicide attack that kills 40 soldiers in the Kashmir region. India retaliated by bombing Pakistani territory, accused of harbouring terrorists.

Narendra Modi claims to have destroyed a training camp and killed more than 300 insurgents. Pakistan denies it. Modi was re-elected two months later, buoyed by the nationalist fervour of the moment.

This Friday, April 14, Satya Pal Malik, at the time governor of Jammu and Kashmir, delivered another version in an interview. He believes that the central government is responsible, because it refused airborne transport to the soldiers. He explains that he was asked to keep quiet about these security breaches.

Formerly close to Modi's BJP party, Satyapal Malik took the opportunity to criticize the Indian Prime Minister. He would be "very misinformed" and would have used this attack to better stir up hatred against Pakistan during the election period.

A small bombshell, in the run-up to the 2024 elections. Several media outlets and the Congress party have asked the BJP for an explanation, which has not yet responded.
