In Beijing, Lula calls for a new world order

After a first day rather under the sign of the economy in Shanghai, the Brazilian president went to Beijing for a meeting with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping. The opportunity to evoke the war in Ukraine and to try to impose itself as a possible mediator in this conflict with the Russians. And more broadly, Luis Iniacio Lula da Silva defended, Saturday, April 15, the idea of a new approach to international relations.

For Lula and Xi Jinping, "the only possible way" to end the conflict in Ukraine that has been raging for 14 months is dialogue. And the Brazilian president believes that supplying weapons encourages the continuation of fighting. He therefore calls on Western countries to:

« The United States must stop encouraging war and start talking about peace. The European Union must start talking about peace, in order to convince Putin and Zelensky that peace is in the interest of the whole world. »

The head of state added that "patience is necessary" to talk to both sides, before continuing: "But above all, we must convince the countries that supply weapons, that encourage war, to stop.

The Brazilian president raised the idea of creating a group of countries that would work for peace in Ukraine. In general, Lula believes that international relations must be more multipolar:

« In recent years, I have tried to demonstrate to the United Nations that the geopolitical landscape of 1945 no longer exists. That the reasons that led to the creation of the United Nations in its current structure no longer exist, that the world has evolved. »

Lula believes that Brazil, India, Egypt, Nigeria and Mexico should play a more central role in international relations.
