The reduction obligation is a law that forces companies that sell petrol and diesel to ensure that emissions of fossil fuels are reduced. This is done by mixing in biofuel in the tank.

Swedish authorities believe that the measure is one of the most important for achieving our climate goals. At the same time, the reduction obligation has driven up prices at the pump, which has led several parties to want to lower it.

In March, Oscar Sjöstedt (SD) said that if the government and the Sweden Democrats do not agree on the reduction obligation, there will be a government crisis. The party's climate policy spokesperson Martin Kinnunen (SD) has not wanted to go that far, but emphasizes that the issue is important for the party.

Listen to SVT's reporter Johan Zachrisson about how the reduction obligation works - and about how the issue has become a threat to the government.
