In Brazil, Judge Alexandre de Moraes summoned, Friday, April 14, former President Jair Bolsonaro to testify to the federal police within 10 days on his responsibility in the riots of January 8.

"Jair Messias Bolsonaro will have to be heard by the federal police within a maximum of ten days," says the decision of the judge of the Federal Supreme Court.

Several investigations against the ex-president

After the elections and his defeat last October by Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Jair Bolsonaro left Brazil on December 30, even before the end of his mandate, boycotting Lula's inauguration ceremony on January 1.

The latter won the October election by a narrow margin – with 50.9% of the vote, compared to 49.1% for the incumbent.

After a three-month stay in the United States, the former president returned to Brazil, confronting the justice of his country. Subject to a long series of investigations, he is exposed to legal proceedings with possible ineligibility and possible imprisonment.

On January 8, thousands of individuals refusing the defeat of former far-right President Jair Bolsonaro stormed the presidential palace, Congress and the Supreme Court, a week after the inauguration of leftist head of state Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

The attackers had easily crossed the security cordon to ransack everything in their path, including priceless works of art.

The violence in Brasilia was reminiscent of the invasion of the Capitol two years earlier in the United States, by supporters of Donald Trump refusing to accept his defeat at the hands of current US President Joe Biden.
