The police leadership has been reticent in commenting on the handling of former regional police chief Mats Lörfving, who was found dead in his home in February. In an interview with TV4 News, however, Anders Thornberg now chooses to comment on the events.

"Actually, it's a relationship between two people that has had very, very big consequences and a terrible ending," the national police chief told TV4 News.

When asked why he cannot comment on his own actions, Thornberg replies:

"My assessment is that we have done what was reasonable and we could not have acted in any other way.

Inquiry appointed

He adds that an investigation is being made into work environment issues that will be reported to the Swedish Work Environment Authority at the end of May.

"It will report what we think within the Swedish Police Authority," he says.

In view of the investigation and Mats Löfving's relatives, Anders Thorberg chooses not to make any further comments.

SVT has sought Anders Thornberg for his own interview, but he declines at the moment.
