The US Department of Defense and Justice continue to investigate the leak of top-secret documents related to the Ukraine war, while AFP says the fallout could be significant and even devastating.

The leaks covered the situation of US allies in the East, Northeast Asia and a number of European countries.

On Ukraine, the Washington Post reported that US assessments, dating back to February, warned of what it called deficiencies in the build-up and supply of Ukrainian troops.

U.S. intelligence assessments suggested that the upcoming spring offensive from the Ukrainian side would lead to limited gains on the ground, according to the same newspaper.

According to the leaked document, Kiev's strategy is to retake areas on the eastern axis and advance to cut off the land corridor leading to Crimea.

The document suggested that the strength of Russian defenses and a decrease in the supply of ammunition to Ukrainian forces could increase losses during the attack.

In Washington, National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby said U.S. officials had reached out to their allies at senior levels about documents leaked on social media platforms.

In remarks during his regular meeting with the media, Kirby added that government agencies are reviewing any implications for the leak of these documents on US national security, noting that the Justice Department is leading the criminal investigation.

Washington is trying to delete it

According to AFP, dozens of documents and photos have been leaked on Twitter, Telegram, Discord and other sites in recent days, some of which may have been circulating online for weeks, if not months, before they attracted media attention last week.

Many of these documents are related to Ukraine, and some report U.S. surveillance of its allies, while U.S. officials have sought to reassure them after the leaks.

The agency says many of these leaks are no longer available on the sites where they were first published, amid reports that Washington is working to delete them.

The fallout from the leak could be significant and even devastating, potentially endangering U.S. intelligence sources and giving the country's enemies valuable information.
