Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Gulf States Affairs Department at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Alireza Enayati said that his country is working to reopen its embassy in Riyadh and its consulate in Jeddah by the end of next month and before the start of the Hajj season.

Enayati added that the Saudi side assured Tehran that it will complete the necessary procedures to reopen the Saudi embassy in Tehran and the Saudi consulate in the city of Mashhad, stressing that Riyadh agreed to resume single Umrah for Iranian citizens.

Last Thursday in Beijing, Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian signed a joint statement on the implementation of the agreement reached by the two countries about a month ago with Chinese mediation, to resume diplomatic relations between them.

In the joint statement issued at the end of their talks in the Chinese capital, the two sides agreed on the importance of following up on the implementation of the agreement to restore relations between the two countries signed in Beijing last March, by reopening representations and taking measures to open the embassies of the two countries in Riyadh and Tehran and the consulates of Jeddah and Mashhad.

The two sides also stressed the activation of the security cooperation agreement between the two countries, as well as agreements of an economic nature. The joint statement added that it was agreed to strengthen cooperation in everything that would achieve security and stability in the region.
