Last year, Natalie Carrion was on stage when the Sámi Grand Prix was broadcast live for the first time on SVT Sápmi and SVT Play.
She was critical afterwards. Not for her own participation, but because she thought it was time for Sweden to "level up". While NRK showed the Sami mellot NRK1 in prime time, the program in Sweden went unsubtitled on the digital channels.
"There are a lot of people like me who haven't got the language. Now we will comment on the Sámi Grand Prix in Swedish and invite a much larger audience,
"Should be entertaining"
By her side is Natalie William Stenvall Zetterström, a well-known voice from Sámi Radio. They had not met before this assignment but are already in the process of compiling the script.
"It's supposed to be a bit entertaining. Now I get to try something I haven't done before, it feels like an honorable assignment," he says.
"Sparkling music festival"
For most people in Sápmi, the Sámi Grand Prix is a tradition on Easter Saturday evening. The artists announced a few weeks ago come from all over Sápmi. And now the commentators hope that they will be able to help the competition better reach out even to those groups who do not know Sami.
Those who do not speak Northern Sami have previously found it difficult to keep up.
– We can remedy that now, we will try to guide the viewers in the sparkling music festival, promise the two commentators.
