The Lebanese mission to the United Nations submitted an official complaint on Saturday to the UN Security Council in protest against the Israeli shelling of areas in the south of the country, while the Lebanese army announced the discovery of missiles that had been prepared for launch in the plain of Qalila.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry said in a statement that it had tasked its UN mission to submit an official complaint to the UN Security Council in protest against the Israeli bombing of the southern areas of the country.

The ministry described the Israeli bombardment as a flagrant violation of Lebanon's sovereignty and a flagrant violation of UN Security Council Resolution 1701, in addition to threatening the stability that the south was enjoying.

The Lebanese Foreign Ministry reiterated its rejection of using the country's territory as a platform to destabilize the existing stability, while retaining Beirut's legitimate right to self-defense.

On Thursday afternoon, 37 rockets were launched from Lebanese territory towards northern Israel, according to the occupation army, which indicated that the "Iron Dome" intercepted a number of them.

Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati condemned the firing of rockets from the south of the country into northern Israel, announcing that investigations are underway to uncover and arrest the perpetrators.

No one claimed responsibility, while the Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the rocket fire was estimated to be in response to recent events at the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In response, the Israeli army targeted open areas in the vicinity of Lebanese territory from which the rockets were fired, causing no casualties.

The launch of these rockets came after the Israeli police stormed the tribal prayer hall of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem, at dawn and Wednesday evening, and assaulted worshipers and those stationed by beating, and arrested hundreds of them.
