The traditional and international slalom race Easter slam, which was run on Södra berget in Sundsvall and on the slopes in Nolby during the Easter weekend, shows that the ski season is far from over, even if it is April. Proof that the appeal to the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the competition season as a climate measure is not impossible.

– I think it's great, says Liza Backlund, winner of Saturday's competition.

Heavy names

The call for FIS comes from both alpine skiers and cross-country skiers, and heavy names such as World Cup winner Mikaela Schiffrin are among those who have signed.

The idea is that a later start to the season reduces travel around the world that the athletes are forced to do to find snow to ride on early in the pre-season. A later start means that you can train to a greater extent at home.

Concerns about the future of the sport

Good, think the skaters that SVT talks to in connection with the Easter bang. The concern that an increasingly warm climate will make skiing impossible is palpable.

"The glaciers are melting," says Max Silfwerplatz from Saltsjöbaden, and believes that if there is to be any snow to ride on, the alpine circus must also take responsibility.
