The detained man is 25 years old and registered at an address in Linköping. According to the arrest petition, the man was arrested in absentia as early as March 31 earlier this year. He was arrested on Tuesday in a morning raid in which the police, in cooperation with SAPO, raided an address in Linköping.

Previously convicted

A review of public documents shows that the man was previously convicted of, among other things, grossly unlawful driving by Eskilstuna District Court in 2019. In the same year, the Administrative Court in Linköping also decided to revoke the man's driver's license – this after the man had been driving under the influence of drugs.

He has previously lived in Eskilstuna, but moved to Linköping sometime between autumn 2019 and spring 2021.

Violent extremism

According to Säpo, the case that the man is suspected of has links to violent Islamist extremism and is one of several cases that Säpo has worked on after the high-profile Koran burnings in Sweden at the beginning of the year.

The man was detained on Good Friday by Eskilstuna District Court. He denies any wrongdoing.

Charges must be brought no later than April 21.
