Economic activity during the World Cup hosted by Qatar contributed to the country's GDP growth of 8% during the fourth quarter of last year.

Planning and Statistics Authority data showed that the value of the quarterly GDP amounted to about 180 billion riyals (about 50 billion dollars).

The data indicated that accommodation and restaurant services activity increased by 64% year-on-year during that period.

Despite the temporary rise in operating expenses during the tournament period, the fiscal surplus in the fourth quarter amounted to about $ 3 billion of the total surplus recorded during the full year and amounted to $ 24.4 billion, the agency said.

Qatar's trade balance surplus jumped by 2022% in 65, supported by an increase in exports to about 355 billion riyals ($97.5 billion).

With these figures, Qatar ranked sixth globally in the field of trade surplus in 2022, advancing 5 places from 2021, and surpassing Germany, which ranked seventh in the world with a surplus of $ 85.34 billion.

In the latest data, Qatar's trade balance surplus in February increased by 2.9% to about 23 billion riyals.

At the end of March, Fitch Ratings raised Qatar's long-term rating from stable to positive, affirming its credit rating at AA-.

Qatar's AAA rating is supported by a number of key elements, including significant net sovereign foreign assets, one of the highest per capita incomes, and a flexible public financial structure.

Fitch expects Qatar's budget surplus to be around 10% of GDP in 2023, up from 13% in 2022.
