Eid al-Fitr is one of the most important occasions celebrated by Muslims around the world, and astronomically it is expected that the number of days of the month of Ramadan for the year 2023 (corresponding to 1444 AH) will be 29 days, as the first day of the holy month began on Thursday, March 23, and lasts for 29 days, according to astronomical calculations, followed by Eid al-Fitr on Friday, April 21, 2023.

The crescent of the month of Shawwal will be investigated in most Arab and Islamic countries on the evening of Ramadan 28, 1444 AH, corresponding to Thursday, April 20, 2023.

The Eid al-Fitr holiday for this year is supposed to be no less than 3 days, starting from Friday, April 21, 2023 and continuing until the evening of Sunday, April 23 of the same month in most Arab and Islamic countries, so that work will officially return on Monday 24 of the same month, taking into account that many Arab countries grant a vacation of up to 6 working days to celebrate this religious occasion.

The date of sighting the Ramadan crescent 2023

It is astronomically expected that the crescent of the month of Shawwal will be born immediately after the conjunction occurs at 5:14 pm Makkah time on Thursday 29 Ramadan 1444 corresponding to April 20, 2023, which is the day of visibility. The new crescent remains in the sky of Makkah for 23 minutes after sunset that day.

In Arab and Islamic capitals and cities, the new crescent remains after sunset that day for periods ranging from 10 minutes to 35 minutes, so the first of the month of Shawwal 1444 will be astronomical on Friday, April 21, 2023, which is the day of Eid Al-Fitr.

If the crescent is not observed on that day, it will be Friday, which completes the month of Ramadan, and that month is completed by 30 days, so that Saturday, April 22 will be the first day of Eid.
