Beijing, 4 Apr (ZXS) -- On 6 April, the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National People's Congress issued a statement in response to US House Speaker McCarthy and other congressmen meeting Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen in the United States.

The statement said that on 4 April, US House Speaker McCarthy and other congressmen insisted on meeting with Taiwan leader Tsai Ing-wen, who was "transiting" the United States, despite China's strong opposition and solemn representations. This move seriously violates the one-China principle and the provisions of the three Sino-US joint communiques, seriously violates international law and basic norms governing international relations, and seriously damages China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. China's National People's Congress resolutely opposes this and strongly condemns it.

The statement said that there is only one China in the world, Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory, and the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legitimate government representing the whole of China. A series of international law documents, including the Cairo Declaration and the Potsdam Proclamation, have clearly defined China's sovereignty over Taiwan. Taiwan has no other status under international law other than being part of China. As the No. 3 political figure in the US Government, Speaker McCarthy's actions seriously violated the commitments made by the US side to China on the Taiwan issue, sent a serious wrong signal to the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, trampled on historical facts and justice, and undermined the international rule of law.

"China's sovereignty and territorial integrity brook no infringement or division." The statement pointed out that the "Anti-Secession Law" formulated and implemented by the National People's Congress clearly stipulates such major issues as upholding the one-China principle, curbing "Taiwan independence" separatism, and opposing interference by external forces in the Taiwan issue. Any attempt to "use Taiwan to contain China" and support and condone the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces will eventually fail, and any act of "coercing foreigners to seek independence" and undermining the motherland's reunification will eventually be punished by law.

The statement stressed that the Taiwan issue is the core of China's core interests, the foundation of the political foundation of Sino-US relations, and the first insurmountable red line in Sino-US relations. We resolutely oppose any form of official US-Taiwan exchanges, and solemnly urge the US Government and Congress to stop distorting and hollowing out the one-China principle, stop venturing across the red line, and stop damaging the political foundation of Sino-US relations.
