"With increasing age, the degree of how bad you feel can increase, but it starts well down in age. It is a shift that we see – that even younger students feel bad, says Lisa Edholm, who is head of department for compulsory school and special needs compulsory school in the municipality.

Despite the fact that the municipality's schools see a large proportion of girls suffering from mental illness, it is far from the whole picture of what it looks like.

Social problem

"It can also be individuals who are in exclusion due to bullying or young people in our vulnerable areas who, because of their socioeconomic situation, feel bad, for example. It is important to highlight that this is not a school problem, but a social problem where more and more children and young people generally feel worse.
