We did not support that proposal. We would have preferred to see a whole picture when we dealt with this issue, says Carl-Wiktor Svensson (KD).

"There are no alternatives," says regional councillor Peter Wretlund (S).

Kalmar County Transport, KLT, has run a deficit of almost SEK 100 million in 2022. According to the chairman of the board, Peter Wretlund, increased prices for fuel and the aftermath of the pandemic have contributed to this.

The fact box below contains information on how many train departures are affected by the decision.

KD directs harsh criticism

"We don't just see savings as an option – we also see revenue as an alternative," says Carl-Wiktor Svensson (KD).

The Christian Democrats are harshly critical of the majority in the regional council for cutting public transport.

They believe that the Christian Democrats and Moderates had put forward proposals on how to improve the economy of public transport but had not been listened to.

"We could work more with commercial sales of advertising on the buses. It would be possible to develop demand-responsive traffic, and I see that we can work more with time-differentiated ticket prices, says Carl-Wiktor Svensson (KD).

All about big savings

It's about saving SEK 100 million, can you do that?

"We will not be able to save SEK 100 million. We need to find a level that allows us to cut a number of millions and eventually get into balance, says regional councillor Peter Wretlund (S).
