Russia's TASS news agency quoted emergency services as saying a fire broke out in a building belonging to the Russian Defense Ministry in central Moscow on Wednesday evening.

The cause of the fire and the damage it left behind are not yet known.

Videos broadcast by Russian state media showed black smoke rising from the building on Znamenka Street, close to the Kremlin.

A major fire broke out in April 2016 in one of the main buildings of the Russian Ministry of Defense, causing several floors to burn and partially collapse the building built in 1792, as well as burning a large part of the documents of the Ministry of Defense.
