– We are worried because we notice that fewer and fewer threatened women are receiving help from social services with sheltered housing, says Bernardita Núñez, Secretary General of Terrafem – a non-profit organization that provides support to abused women of foreign origin.

According to Terrafem, the assessments have been changed so that only women who are subjected to the most serious violence receive help. Investments are also becoming increasingly short-lived.

"This means that several emergency apartments are now empty – not only at NGOs such as Terrafem but also at social services," says Bernardita Núñes.

Meeting with politicians at City Hall

On Tuesday, six different organizations that work with support for abused women and children had a meeting with the Social Mayor in Stockholm.

– We know that the non-profit women's organizations and women's shelters are very important for the city and we want to protect them, says Social Mayor Alexander Ojanne (S).
