– The goal is to recreate a 1700s landscape reminiscent of what existed when Linnaeus was born, writes the County Administrative Board of Kronoberg in a press release.

The reason why the heather is burned is that it is overgrown and woody, which is not good for biodiversity. New plants will also provide better grazing for grazing animals.

Smoke will spread southwards

The burning will last from 12:00 until late afternoon and cause smoke to spread. The smoke from the burn will move south from Råshult, in Älmhult municipality.

"For several years, the County Administrative Board has planned to burn the heather and last year the work could begin when an area was burned with a good result. During the early summer, clearing will also be carried out. This creates the conditions for meadow plants to have a chance to establish themselves," says Birgitta Warodell, landscape curator.
