"Based on the economic situation, we have made the assessment that it is not fully justified to make those investments and take that cost. So the proposal now is not to reopen, says Cecilia Wahlström, social manager in Oskarshamn municipality to SVT.

Investment of 9 million

The investigation shows, among other things, that the requirements for a newly opened nursing home would entail investments of around SEK 9 million.

At the same time, the report notes that there are insufficient sanitary facilities in the premises and that the number of apartments must therefore be refurnished and reduced from 8 to 6. Something that in total is not considered economically justifiable.

Receives criticism

But the investigation is criticized. Misterhultsbygden's interest group, formerly the People's Initiative, which pushed forward the referendum, believes that it has major shortcomings and that politicians thus have to make decisions on the wrong grounds.

"An architect and a professional should look at this and make a new proposal, perhaps several proposals, that are financially solvable," says Eva Holm, spokesperson.

"Combative again"

The question of the future of the special housing at Hultagårdsvägen 7B will be raised at an extraordinary meeting on Tuesday of the municipal executive board's committee for business, labor and technical activities. Ultimately, the decision will end up on the City Council's table.

If the ruling politicians, contrary to what they have said, choose to oppose the result of the referendum, the residents of Misterhult are ready to dust off the placards again, says Eva Holm.

"Now we are combative again. And we will drive all the way to the tiles.
