In 1943, in the middle of World War II and despite his affinity with communism, Robert Oppenheimer was appointed scientific director of the "Manhattan" Project by the American army. General Leslie Richard Groves placed him at the head of this project to develop .... the atomic bomb: the first in the history of the United States!
