This year's Golden Helmet Cup has been decided in six competitions arranged by various snowmobile clubs in the county. The cup is divided into three classes, according to engine type and age of the scooter, as well as a youth class.

However, it's all about vintage scooters and the newest model year currently allowed is 1990.

"Going forward, we will gradually need to let in newer scooters as well, but it should be veteran scooters and a familiar form of competition. This is not snowcross, it should be old stuff and a family atmosphere. So says Peter Karlsson, enthusiast and the one who came up with the name Guldhjälmscupen.

About 60 participants participated in the weekend's competitions in Gällö, but during the pandemic a lot of participants were lost.

"It has recovered a little more this year, but we probably lost about a third during the pandemic. It is also particularly sad that we lost several of the girls who were doing it, says Peter Karlsson.

"There's nothing closer"

One who has travelled far to compete in Gällö is Lars Hammarlund Bolander with his Ockelbo from 1976.

"I live in Ockelbo, so I started at half past three last night to get here. There is no similar event closer to home for me, so if you want to keep going, just go, says Lars.
