The agreement was terminated this week because the municipality needs the land where the shooting range is located for an industrial area.

A number of replacement places have been investigated, but none have been considered appropriate. When the agreement expires in a year, the clay pigeon shooting in Trelleborg risks going to the grave.

"For my part, it's not good at all. I find it difficult to continue my efforts towards the Olympics because I have nowhere to train, says Stefan Nilsson, three-time Olympic shooter who belongs to the club.

Used for hunter exam

The closure of the shooting range poses problems not only for the clay pigeon shooters in Trelleborg. It is practiced with many different kinds of weapons on the track. According to the club, many Scanians take their hunting exam here. Even the police come there to train.

"This makes it even more important that we establish cooperation with the neighbouring municipalities and perhaps the region," says Erik Lundström (KD).

– We are now hoping for a solution in a neighboring municipality, says Erik Lundström (KD), second vice chairman of the municipal board.

He says that the municipality has looked at yet another alternative, which in that case would put Trelleborg municipality on the Swedish shooting map.

Can get an indoor court

– We have also opened up to find an opportunity for an indoor track. There is none in the country, but there is in Germany. We shall see how far we can go on this.

If so, would the municipality provide money for the track?

"We'll see then. We will first make it possible to build such a track, says Erik Lundström (KD).
