Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav Volodin announced the degradation of the Western political system, commenting on the prosecution of former US President Donald Trump.

"The Western political system has degraded, along with its leaders, who not only lost credibility, but also became involved in criminal cases and scandals," the politician wrote in his Telegram channel.

According to him, the fate of Trump may in the future befall the current head of the White House, Joe Biden.

"There are enough reasons. He is accused of corruption in Ukraine using his official position, as well as the fact that secret documents were found in his house," Volodin said.

At the same time, the speaker of the State Duma recalled that other former heads of Western states also have problems with the law.

"Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has been sentenced to prison for corruption and attempted bribery of a judge. Angela Merkel was accused by the Constitutional Court of Germany of bias and violation of the principle of equal opportunities for political parties. And these people teach the whole world to live!" he wrote.

At the same time, Volodin stressed that Western leaders are not held accountable for much more serious crimes.

"As life shows, they are prosecuted for much less serious crimes than those that they actually committed. Their decisions led to bloodshed, devastation, millions of victims and tragic destinies in Libya, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Yugoslavia, and today in Ukraine," the Chairman of the State Duma said.

In his opinion, European and American politicians responsible for this should be brought before an international tribunal and be punished deservedly.

"Distracting maneuver"

Recall that at the end of March in New York, a grand jury considered the available evidence sufficient to indict Donald Trump in the case of forgery of financial documents. The Manhattan Prosecutor's Office has already contacted the lawyer of the ex-president regarding his presence in court to bring charges.

The details of the investigation are unknown, however, according to the American media, it concerns the alleged forgery of financial documents of The Trump Organization when paying money to former actress Stormy Daniels.

According to The New York Times, lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,2016 to prevent her from spreading information about her 2006 affair with Trump in <> during the <> election campaign. At the same time, the money spent was allegedly compensated to Cohen at the expense of The Trump Organization, for which the company's documents were falsified.

In addition, as the AP reports, citing sources, Trump may be charged with another criminal offense. According to the agency, we are talking about "falsification of business documentation."

American media note that Trump became the first ex-PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, against whom charges of committing a criminal offense were brought.

According to the publication The Hill, the ex-president intends to arrive in New York on Monday, where on April 4 he can be officially charged.

Trump himself denies all the accusations against him and calls the case against him political. This point of view is shared by a number of his party members. As recalled by Republican Jeb Bush, who acted as Trump's rival in the primaries in 2016, the prosecutor's office and the Ministry of Justice had not previously found grounds for prosecuting the ex-president.

"Predecessor (of the Manhattan District Attorney. - RT) Bragg did not consider this case. The Justice Department has not taken up this case," Bush said. Bragg initially said he would not deal with the case. This is a purely political issue, not a question of justice."

In turn, the lawyer of the 45th President of the United States, Joe Takopina, believes that the case against his client harms the country.

"People don't seem to understand what it is (making accusations. "RT) really poses a danger to all of us, not just to Donald Trump," Takopina said. Today, it's Donald Trump. Tomorrow is a Democrat. The day after tomorrow is our cousin, nephew, niece or brother."

"Today we use the justice system as a political weapon. We have never done this in our country," Takopina said.

Former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, a Republican, called trump's pursuit a distracting maneuver.

"The most important thing is that this is not good for our country, and it is obvious that this greatly distracts the attention of anyone who wants to talk about the economy, about federal budget spending or about the border. It's a distracting maneuver," he said in an interview with Fox Business Network.

This view is shared by Fox Business journalist Stuart Varney.

"This whole venture is a deliberate diversionary maneuver. Mad Trump haters get the opportunity to make diatribes, and Democrats - to distract attention from the chronic failures of Biden, "he said on the air of the channel.

Varney also believes that the U.S. is turning into a third world country.

"Imagine for a moment that you are a tourist who came to America for the first time. You land at, say, John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco or Philadelphia. What do you see when you take a taxi into the city? A third world country. The homeless live in filthy tent cities. You have to be on guard over violent criminals. And everywhere you're surrounded by drugs, whether it's the smell of marijuana or a fentanyl addict lying unconscious on the sidewalk. And then... you turn on the news — and what do you see? The former president is indicted by a district attorney who hates Trump and manipulates the law to deal with a political opponent. This situation is straight from the Third World. In authoritarian countries, a former leader is arrested to permanently strip him or her of power. That's what's happening right now," he said.

Trump himself, in connection with the current situation, also previously compared the United States with a third world state.

"This is an unprecedented attack on our country, as well as an ongoing attack on our once free and fair elections. The United States is now a third world country in serious decline, "the ex-president wrote in his own social network Truth Social.

According to the Internet portal Axios, Trump has already managed to enlist the support of at least 37 Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives. They include more than a third of Republicans on the Judiciary Committee and the Oversight and Accountability Committee. According to the portal, this can help the politician in the election campaign and a possible trial.

"They need a lawsuit against Trump.

According to analysts, the case against the 45th president of the United States is a political order of the current American administration.

"Nobody hides it. The accusations against the former head of the White House are such that it is unlikely that they would have been put forward against another person in a similar situation. They need a process against Trump, so they are building it, "said Vladimir Bruter, an expert at the International Institute for Humanitarian and Political Studies, in a conversation with RT.

A similar opinion is shared by the director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the Study of the United States at Moscow State University, Yuri Rogulev.

"On the one hand, Trump is now an ordinary citizen, and such an investigation can be conducted against him. On the other hand, it should be borne in mind that he is a former president, and also plans to participate in the 2024 elections. Therefore, of course, this is a political order, "the analyst said in a comment to RT.

At the same time, experts find it difficult to assess the possible consequences of the trial in the case of Trump for his future political career and the situation inside the United States as a whole.

"The initiators of this process would like Trump to leave himself and announce that he will not participate in the presidential election. If Trump raises the stakes, they will act in the same way and spin this process further in order to prevent him from participating in the elections in any case, "says Bruter.

Analysts also agree that the Western political system is in decline.

"The Western political class and the whole system are degrading. And the accusations against Trump are just one indication of that. There are dysfunctions in the US electoral system, the work of the executive and legislative branches. There are similar problems in many other areas," Rogulev concluded.
