The now-convicted man was arrested at his home in January last year before the eyes of his parents after cooperation between Swedish and Thai authorities.

Thai police had several years earlier discovered a Thai network that sold child pornography and abuse material in closed groups on the Russian social media platform VK. The business was traced to a property in Stockholm where the man was arrested.

The material, which consists of nearly 75,000 images and 20,000 films, contains thousands of pornographic depictions of children. Of these, just over 80 images and 400 films are judged to be particularly reckless.

Convicted of several felonies

Several of the girls, who were between the ages of 13 and 17 when they were exposed, say in interrogation that they were approached by men who offered them money to photograph or film themselves naked.

They never received any payment, and the material was subsequently resold without the girls' approval or knowledge. The preliminary investigation shows that the closed groups at VK had between 20,000 and 30,000 paying members and that the now convicted man withdrew over two million kronor.

He is now convicted of aggravated child pornography offences, aggravated money laundering offences, aggravated unlawful invasion of privacy and unlawful depiction of violence. He will also pay nearly one million kronor in damages to six plaintiffs.
