Every year, 2.6 billion burgers are sold in France. In other words, 80 of these American sandwiches are gobbled up every second on our territory. The France is also the second market of the giant McDonald's and the chain has 1,500 restaurants spread throughout France. For its part, Burger King counts nearly 500 and Quick is far from having disappeared with more than 100 restaurants. To these brands are added Five Guys, KFC, Subway or Pizza Hut.

The success of a new mode of consumption

For Loïc Bienassis, food historian, this success is that of a new mode of consumption that translates in particular into "the freedom to consume on the spot or to take away". "That is to say that if you want to spend an hour or an hour and a half on the spot you can but if you want to leave and eat your hamburger while walking, you can too. There is this flexibility, beyond speed, that corresponds to the expectations of contemporary eaters."

A trend that does not seem ready to stop since Quick wants to open twenty new restaurants this year when KFC aims for the 600 mark within five years.
