It was on June 29, 2021 that a man was found dead in a burned-out car in a village outside Pajala. A cohabiting couple, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 50s, were remanded in custody and sentenced to long prison terms in district court.

But the Court of Appeal made a different assessment and acquitted the couple completely. The woman, who was detained for two rounds and just over nine months in total, has since demanded compensation for the time she was detained.

Six-figure amount

Now the Chancellor of Justice (JK) has made a decision and the woman receives a total of SEK 326,803. The man, who was first sentenced to 15 years in prison for murder, has also submitted a request.

The man is applying for SEK 411,600 in compensation but JK has not made a decision on that matter yet.

The fire scene was cordoned off
