The Qatari agency also said that the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs called Iranian Foreign Minister Hussein Amir Abdullahian and expressed Qatar's welcome to reach an agreement to restore relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

She added that the two sides talked - during the phone call - about the abolition of sanctions and the need for humanitarian attention to the exchange of prisoners between Iran and the United States.

The Iranian Foreign Minister also expressed his congratulations to Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani on assuming the premiership in the State of Qatar.

Earlier today, Friday, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) announced that Riyadh and Tehran had agreed to resume diplomatic relations and reopen the two embassies and diplomatic representations within two months.

This agreement was reached - according to "SPA" - after talks that took place in China with President Xi Jinping.
