NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has repeatedly claimed that it is absolutely crucial for Europe's security that Ukraine wins the war against Russia.

Otherwise, he believes that there is a risk of a major war between NATO and Russia in Europe.

- Then we will see destruction, death and suffering on a much greater scale than the terrible things we see in Ukraine, says Jens Stoltenberg for 30 minutes.

NATO wants to avert conflict

He believes that NATO has two tasks.

One is to provide Ukraine with heavier and more modern weapons so that they can defend themselves against the Russian onslaught.

The second concerns an increased military presence on NATO's part in the Baltics and the Black Sea region.

According to Stoltenberg, the purpose is not to provoke Russia, but to avert a conflict and preserve peace in NATO member states.

- The point of deterrence is not to fight a war, but to prevent it, says Stoltenberg and continues:

- I feel confident that the strength NATO is showing wipes out all doubts in Moscow about our defense capability.
