The polar bear broke open a steel gate, then bit a cable in an electrical cabinet and received a shock, Danmarks Radio reports and refers to the zoo's website.
"Polar bears are very curious and strong animals.
Unfortunately, it has had fatal consequences in this case," writes Mads Frost Bertelsen, zoological manager and veterinarian at Copenhagen Zoo, on the website.
“Fortunately, it's the kind of accident we've never experienced before.
It is clear that we will now be very critical of our electrical installations in the polar bear facility".
