- Porn is a very large part of young people's lives today and I want to make them reflect on how it really affects them, says Simon Häggström, who grew up in Stockaryd in Sävsjö municipality, who is a police officer specializing in prostitution and human trafficking in Stockholm.

Many victims of abuse

In connection with International Women's Day, he lectured today to students at Finnveden's high school.

One of those who listened was Alva Collbo, in year two.

- I'll take the numbers he showed with me.

You know that there are many who have been sexually harassed, but that there are so many is scary.

She refers to the figures presented by Simon Häggström, which show that roughly 36 percent of the girls and twelve percent of the boys among the 3,282 surveyed high school youth in Sweden answered that they had been subjected to physical sexual abuse at some point in their lives.

The figures come from the survey Young people, sex and the internet after Metoo 2021.

"The adult world sticks its head in the sand"

Simon Häggström, who often lectures at secondary schools, feels that many young people today have a great need to talk about these issues.

- Many young people have been exposed to sexual crimes and we must dare to talk about that, but the adult world sticks its head in the sand.

What is the risk of not talking about this?

- The risk is that we end up in a society where pornography is allowed to dictate the conditions for what is normal sex, and that is devastating.
