- What makes people like Andrew Tate?

SO teacher David asks the question to class 7 C at Videdalskolan in Malmö.

When his own son asked about Andrew Tate, David realized he didn't know who it was, but he understood that many young boys listen to Andrew Tate's tough message about women and masculinity.

- I'm a social studies teacher and I don't know who the most Googled person is.

Students need and want to discuss this.

It's rather that we teachers don't really dare to bring it up, says David Winqvist.

- I already knew before I saw the film that he is not a very good person, but after the film I realized that he really is not a good person, says Nore Malmgren in year 7.

Andrew Tate entices and frightens

David Winqvist started a project where upper secondary students first watched the documentary "Manskulten Andrew Tate" on SVT Play.

A discussion then began about Tate and why some are attracted while others are frightened by his message.

- He is a role model for many young boys and he says that men should be powerful and that women should be slaves and only listen to men, says student Zainab Muradi.

- Many guys find it difficult to express their feelings because they are afraid they will be judged for it.

I think it's quite tragic, says student Elin Björsne.

Difficult discussions

David Winqvist says that this is a way to bring the present into teaching, to talk to students about their topics of conversation so that opinions can meet.

- We teachers have to have the discussion, but it is difficult to respond to some of the harsh things that are said.

I can't just say "you're wrong".

You have to respond in a way where you don't polarize further.

Andrew Tate has been in custody in Romania since the end of December on suspicion of rape and human trafficking.
