Sick leave among healthcare workers is twice as high as before the corona pandemic.

- It is the biggest challenge we have in the municipality right now, says Roland Wiking (S), chairman of the care and social care committee.

Schedule the reason

According to the staff, the sick leave is due to the so-called coordination schedule.

This means that on certain days the staff may change workplaces at short notice to cover absences elsewhere.

- Those from the night patrol, who have never worked in a home with dementia, would work here one night all by themselves.

It's not looking for care, says My Bengtsson, who works at Sandbäcksgården.

The coordination scheme covers everything from home care to LSS accommodation and accommodation for the demented.

- It is worry and anxiety.

People have broken up here at work.

We try to comfort each other, to be enough for each other and for those who live here, says colleague Cecilia Larsson.

Less recovery

The coordination schedule has also led to less time for recovery between work shifts, according to the nurses SVT Nyheter Skåne spoke to.

Roland Wiking says that the municipality will now investigate the effects of the coordination scheme.

- It is too early to say that this is the single reason why sick leave is so high, he says.

The protesters want the municipality to create a larger pool of permanent employees who jump in when absent.

- Then there won't be this rush for people, says Cecilia Larsson and emphasizes how important it is for people with dementia and their relatives to know the staff who work at the accommodation.
