With the Russian war on Ukraine entering its second year, many questions arise about the duration of the conflict and its various repercussions, and who will turn around at the end of the war, whose end does not seem imminent.

The Russian "News Re" website published a report that attempts to answer one of the many questions of the war, as it touches on the fate of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky after the war ends, and reviews the options available to him in light of the war's developments and its outcome.

The site's report indicates that experts unanimously agree that Zelensky's political future is linked to the outcome of the conflict that has been raging since February 24 of last year, and they are likely to be one of the following six scenarios:

The first scenario: a candidate for the presidency in 2024

The report prepared by journalist Matvey Zagoni indicated that US President Joe Biden's sudden visit to Ukraine on the occasion of the first anniversary of the start of the war, and the closed meeting he had with Zelensky, imply an assertion that the latter's political fate is linked to success in ending the Russian-Ukrainian war according to his terms.

The site quoted German political researcher and journalist Alexander Rahr as saying that Zelensky's fate depends entirely on the outcome of the war between his country and Russia, and that he may find himself out of power if he signs a peace treaty that gives up lands in southeastern Ukraine.

Rahr suggested that former President Petro Poroshenko or Vitali Klitschko would replace him as the mayor of Kiev in the upcoming elections, and said that Ukraine might become a country belonging to the European Union and NATO and under their protection.

The article indicated that the developments of the war necessitated holding presidential elections in Ukraine next year, and quoted a Russian expert as predicting that Zelensky would run for those elections.

The second scenario: Zelensky is another Macron

The article quoted Alexander Rahr as saying that the resources invested by the West to keep Zelensky in power confirm that he will not rush to change him, pointing out that many Western capitals - including Brussels, Berlin, Paris and Warsaw - will seek to provide the necessary support for him to continue in the presidency, because this guarantees the influence of The West and its interests in Ukraine and the reconstruction processes that you will witness later.

Rahr predicted that Zelensky could become one of the most influential politicians in Europe, like French President Macron, if he managed to restore the Ukrainian territories controlled by Russia.

The third scenario: a prime minister in exile

But if Russia manages to achieve its military objectives, which it announced at the start of the war, the fate that awaits Zelensky will be similar to that of the Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who is in exile in the Republic of Lithuania.

Fourth scenario: Immigration to Israel

The author of the report says that the former Minister of Defense of the Donetsk People's Republic, Igor Strelkov, does not rule out that Zelensky will resort to emigrating to Canada or Israel after the end of the war, if he remains alive, regardless of the outcome of the Russian-Ukrainian war.

Fifth scenario: Zelensky appears before the judiciary

The site's report quotes Colonel and military expert Leonid Ivashov, head of the Academy of Geopolitical Problems, as saying that immigration may be the best option for Zelensky, who may appear before the courts if he is accused of being responsible for some of the abuses committed throughout Ukraine during the Russian war, which could end his political career.

Sixth scenario: trial before the Russian judiciary

With regard to the sixth and final scenario, Andrei Klimov, deputy head of the Russian Federal Council Committee for International Affairs, believes that Zelensky may be subject to judicial accountability, but this will not be by the International Criminal Court, but rather by the Russian judiciary.

He points out that Zelensky was involved - according to Russian criminal law - in many major criminal cases that entail harsh sentences if the person is convicted.
