At the Salon de l'Agriculture, which opened its doors to the public this Saturday, the word inflation is at the heart of discussions among the stands.

On site, many meat producers are warning about future price increases.

According to the firm IRI, the price of meat has increased by 30% in one year.

Inflation at the heart of the 2023 Agricultural Show. While the largest farm in France opened its doors last Saturday, this word often comes up among the stands.

Many meat producers in particular are warning about upcoming price increases.

According to IRI, one of the world leaders in market research, the price of meat has increased by 30% in one year.

Europe 1 went there to meet the breeders who are bearing the brunt of the increase in production costs, and in particular that of energy.

Planned increases of between 10 and 12% on the shelves

Expect increases of 10 to 12% on the shelves.

For Michel, a breeder in Savoie, the price increase must continue.

"The costs that increase, we have to pass them on. If we don't increase a product, it is the breeders who will decrease and who will no longer produce. It's less meat", he warns.

Increases all the more essential that farmers do not manage.

This is the case of Bernard, a beef producer near Bordeaux.

"Whether it's diesel or equipment, everything has become more expensive. We have increased a little bit, but not enough compared to what it should be. Before, we sold cows for 5.40 euros per kilo, we sell them today 5.60. To do well, we should sell them 6.50. We are one euro below the price that we should sell them", laments the producer.

The new prices are currently being discussed by distributors and manufacturers.

Breeders and consumers will therefore be fixed at the end of the debate, which ends on Tuesday evening.
