Minister for Foreign Affairs Hayashi, who is visiting New York, attended the ministerial-level debate of the United Nations Security Council in the early hours of the 25th, Japan time.

He strongly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine as an insult to the United Nations as a whole and called for the principle of the rule of law to be upheld.

At the United Nations, in line with the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, a Security Council ministerial-level debate was held, in which Foreign Minister Hayashi also attended.

Noting that the Russian aggression began during an emergency session of the Security Council, Hayashi said, "It shows how disrespectful the UN is with its contempt for the Security Council and the UN as a whole. I will accuse you of it," he said.

He then said it was a clear violation of international law by a permanent member of the Security Council, which has the greatest responsibility for maintaining world peace and security.

He called on Russia to immediately stop aggression, withdraw its troops, and respect Ukraine's independence and sovereignty.

He also condemned attacks on innocent civilians and critical infrastructure and called for accountability under international law.

He also called for adherence to the principle of the rule of law, saying, ``Any attempt to change territory by force or coercion anywhere in the world must be resolutely rejected.''
