These are investments worth hundreds of billions of kroner when the army is expanded and new weapon systems are purchased.

- The increase in Poland's military spending to 4 percent of GDP is greater than in any other European country as far as I can see, says Pieter Wezeman, senior researcher at SIPRI.

- The interesting thing about Poland is that they are investing heavily in weapons of all categories, they are really developing their combat capabilities, explains Wezeman.

Tanks and fighter planes

The USA and South Korea are Poland's largest suppliers of weapons systems.

555 tanks have been ordered from the US and South Korea.

Poland also has an option to buy another 811 tanks from South Korea.

If all tanks are delivered, Poland will have more modern tanks than Germany, France, Great Britain and Italy currently have combined.

The air force will receive 80 new fighter aircraft and the navy will, among other things, receive two new signals intelligence vessels from SAAB, an order worth almost seven billion kroner.

There have also been discussions with Sweden, among others, about the purchase of new submarines.
