"I welcome today's decision by President Bashar al-Assad to open two Bab al-Salam and El-Rayi points from Turkey to northwestern Syria for an initial period of three months to deliver humanitarian aid in a timely manner," Guterres said in a statement.

He noted that the delivery of food, medicines and winter clothes to the population of Turkey, which suffered from the earthquake, is of great importance.

Earlier, the deputy head of the Russian Center for the Reconciliation of Warring Parties in the Arab Republic, Major General Oleg Yegorov, said that the Russian military provided medical assistance to 321 victims of the earthquake in Syria.
