A United States Air Force fighter has shot down over Alaska a flying object the size of a car that posed a risk to the civilian population.

This has just been reported by the White House and the Department of Defense of that country.

The device was flying at an altitude of about 40,000 feet (about 12 kilometers), and the decision to shoot it down was made by President Joe Biden.

The new shootdown comes exactly six days after another Air Force fighter shot down a Chinese spy balloon over the South Carolina coast, which had been flying over the country since at least Wednesday.

The Chinese spy balloon had equipment designed to, among other activities, intercept and listen to telecommunications within the US.

The ship was also flying over an intercontinental nuclear missile base.
