Foreign Minister Hayashi held a phone call with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin as he unveiled a new proposal South Korea is considering as a solution to the issue of "recruitment" during the Pacific War.

He received an explanation of the new plan and seems to have confirmed that he will continue discussions to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

On the 12th, the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that an existing foundation under the South Korean government will make payments to the plaintiffs on behalf of the Japanese companies that were ordered to pay compensation by the court as a solution to the issue of "recruitment" during the Pacific War. Against this backdrop, Foreign Minister Hayashi held a telephone conversation with South Korean Foreign Minister Park Jin in Washington, D.C., where he was visiting, on the afternoon of the 13th Japan time.



Although the details have not been clarified, Minister Hayashi seems to have received an explanation about the new proposal that the South Korean side is considering.



After that, in order to restore the relationship between the two countries to a healthy form, it seems that they confirmed that they will continue discussions for an early resolution of the problem.



Regarding this issue, Minister Hayashi told reporters on the morning of the 13th that he would refrain from commenting on individual movements, but indicated that he would continue to communicate with the government.
