• Equality Irene Montero admits that there are no "magic wands" to prevent sexist murders and calls for more resources and training

  • Justice The Prosecutor's Office toughens the measures in serious cases of gender violence: imprisonment even if the victim does not request it or telematic bracelet

After the catastrophic end of 2022 in terms of sexist violence (with 11 women murdered in one month) and the disastrous entry into 2023, with three crimes in one week, the

Ministry of the Interior

is going to implement more measures to fight this problem.

Among the novelties that it will introduce in the protocol, the agreement to increase police measures against persistent aggressors, those who have a history of violence against other women, stands out.

This is one of the conclusions of the two-day meeting with those responsible for the fight against Gender Violence of the State Security Forces convened by Fernando Grande-Marlaska given the ferocity of the figures.

After reviewing "one by one" the 49 crimes against women in 2022, the experts have reached another agreement: to put into practice the constitution of monthly monitoring tables.

In addition, the experts have also stopped at, according to Interior sources, "the importance of the victim's environment" as 'help' in the fight against violence against women.

"It is important to increase actions in the environment and communications because victims tend to mask the risk situation. We are going to work on the environment to have a diagnosis of the risk situation."

The same sources have pointed out that in many cases of deceased women there was no complaint even though those around them were aware of these events.

"We have to be able to get there."

As of December 31, 2022, more than 700,000 women were in the Viogen system.

Of these, 31,000 are under follow-up, 726 at high risk and 18 at extreme risk.

In the last 12 months, there were more than 100,000 complaints.

The same sources referred to Viogen as an "effective and safe" system.
