Israeli police break up a meeting of parents of Palestinian students

Israeli police broke up a meeting of Palestinian parents in East Jerusalem about their children's education, claiming that it was illegally funded by the Palestinian Authority.

Saturday's dispersal came just days after Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, an ultra-nationalist with a long record of anti-Arab rhetoric, took office under the new Israeli government.

Ben Gvir now supervises the police.

Police said the meeting was funded by the Palestinian Authority and attended by Palestinian activists, and said it violated Israeli law.

The police added that they prevented the meeting from taking place on the order of Ben Gvir.
