Since the start of the war on Iraq, television stations in Peru have transmitted news on Arab channels to create another vision of the war, after American television stations were the main sources for Peruvian channels.
Peruvian officials feel that the American media regularly portray the American and British viewpoint as biased and accused of concealing some aspects of the conflict.
America, one of the most popular stations in Peru, used simultaneous translation from Arabic into Spanish for the news broadcasts broadcast by the Lebanese Hezbollah-affiliated Al-Manar TV, with the aim of establishing a balance with the American (CNN) station, which still quotes part of its news from it.
On the other hand, the news director of Frequencia Latina TV, Gilberto Home, in turn, confirmed that he decided to transmit news on Al-Jazeera channel to establish the same balance, and Canal-N also transmits pictures and comments broadcasted by Al-Jazeera, translated into Spanish, according to said its editor-in-chief, Rolando Schumpetazzi.
Despite this skepticism of Anglo-Saxon television, the BBC is still the main source for one of the most prominent Peruvian journalists, Cesar Hildebrand, whose daily bulletin is one of the most listened to by the people.
Hildebrandt also relies on the French international channel (TV5), which especially repeats the news bulletin of France 2 and France 3, with simultaneous translation into Spanish.
