According to TASS, the decision to demolish the steles depicting soldiers of various branches of the military was made by the city authorities in June.

It was planned to carry out the dismantling before November 1.

According to local authorities, the contractor is proceeding with the direct dismantling of the steles and plans to complete the work by the Catholic Christmas.

The military memorial at the Antakalnis cemetery was created in 1951.

More than 3 thousand soldiers of the Red Army are buried on it.
