Macron announces direct contact with Putin in the coming days

French President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that he would have "direct contact" with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin "in the coming days" regarding civil nuclear energy and the Zaporizhia plant, which Moscow and Kiev have accused of bombing each other.

"I intend to contact Putin directly in the coming days on civil nuclear issues first, and the power plant in Zaporizhya, after I contacted the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi," Macron told reporters during a visit to the "Exhibition of Mayors" in Paris.

And the Ukrainian nuclear energy agency, Energoatom, announced on Wednesday that three Ukrainian nuclear plants were "disconnected" from the electricity grid after Russian strikes targeted energy facilities and caused a major power outage.
